Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry Hybrid 2009, toyota camry hybrid, toyota hybrids

Question
Car was bought new last May 2009.  Before leaving for a trip to Mexico, our car was called in to change the pedal.  The hybrid wasn't on the recall list I saw on the internet, but we had it done.  We drove our Hybrid across the border of Nogales, Mexico after filling the car with gas in Nogales, AZ.  It was a number of weeks later that we filled the car with gas again in San Carlos, Mexico on the mainland, about 5 1/2 hours from Nogales, AZ.  Within a few days, the engine lite went on, my husband checked the oil, it was ok.  I opened the gas cap, and locked it back on again.  Neither of these things shut off the engine lite.  After a number of phone calls, we discovered no mechanics had been trained to work on Toyota hybrids in Mexico.  The book said it could be an electronic problem with 3 possibilities, stop driving the car, and take it to a dealer.  We eventually talked with a service advisor at a Tucson, AZ Toyota dealer, and he said it was safe to drive to Tucson from San Carlos, Mexican.  We had a 1 1/2 hr wait at the border, so it took about 8 1/2 hrs to arrive at the Toyota dealer in Tucson, AZ.  The car was fixed by the next day; the problem was a kinked neck in the fuel fill pipe.  We were in a hurry to continue our trip in the States, and the service advisor was out to lunch, so we never found out how this happened.  It was covered under warranty.  Is it possible this happened on our 1 fillup in Mexico where the men working at the station service the car by filling the tank with gas?  They don't have the rubber on the gas nozzle like we have in the States now.  If this was damage done by shoving the nozzle into the tank, I wouldn't think it would be covered by warranty.

Answer
If the dealer covered under warranty then there could not have been any damge caused by outside influences such as hitting an object on the road etc. I haven't seen any cases similar to this so I really have no idea other than a defect from the factory.
