Toyota Repair: 02 Tundra repair/diagnose, face unemployment, metal particles

Question
Thanks in advance for your time. I have an '02 Tundra V6 SR5 AT 4X2 displaying DTC 0770 for which there is a TSB (EG024-02#. The original tranny went without warning at 48k, dealer replacement began whining at 109k with MIL actuating and deactivating itself within 10 to 100 miles with increasing frequency.hen I would check for DTC, it was always 0770. The truck generally shifted in and out of OD normally with the exception of a narrow RPM range on slight grades # never loaded). I I would ignore it were it not preventing me from passing a state inspection. When second tranny was installed by independent shop, they neglected to replace solenoid per my request. Unfortunately I was due out of state the next day for several months or face unemployment. No MIL for nor noticeable shifting problem for 3k. It is my understanding that shift solenoid E is the OD solenoid. Before I put second tranny in I had one shop clean screen and check shift solenoid. hey stated solenoid functioned normally. While on the road with a few hours available I had a dealer in TX check  and they indicated that I would need to replace ECM before they could tell me anything. Could you possibly advise as to how to proceed. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Answer
This code is usually caused by a failing lock-up torque converter not the solenoid, the disintegrating torque converter starts to deposit metal particles into the transmission fluid causing the solenoid to set a trouble code. These transmissions of the early tundra's had a history of chronic problems.
