Toyota Repair: 2000 Celica burning oil, pvc valve, toyota celica

Question
My daughter recently acquired 2000 Toyota Celica. We have noticed that it is burning oil.  It appears the smoke is noticeable when accelerating.  I do not see blue smoke when starting the engine.  The PVC valve has been replaced twice within the last month. Aside from piston rings, what could be causing this oil consumption? It has used a quart of oil in the last 200 miles, but the smoke is not very noticeable.  If a re-build is necessary, what is your best estimate of the cost? Any help is appreciated.

Answer
Oil smoke on acceleration and high oil consumption are typically caused by collapsed oil control rings and worn cylinder walls requiring a complete engine overhaul or I would suggest locating a remanufatured engine from an independent rebuilder, either way an expensive repair(about #3000-4000)parts and labor, I would advise against having someone try to rebuild or overhaul the existing engine because it may actually be  more expensive, when buying a remanufatured engine you know up front what it will cost instead of some surprises for additional costs once the engine has been taken apart.
