Toyota Repair: Toyota Sequoia, 2004 toyota sequoia, toyota sequoia

Question
Hi,

I have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia with 40,800 miles.  No longer has a warrantly.  For the last few months, the "brake" light, the VSC light and Trac lights come on intermittently.  Maybe a few times per week.  My husband checked the brake fluid, it was low.  He added some and the lights stayed off for a few months.  First, should there ever be a time when brake fluid would be low?  Why would it be?  Anyway, the lights are coming on intermittently again.  I am about to take a long roadtrip with my 2 small children so I am concerned.  The brake fluid is fine.  I have heard that there was a bulletin on the computers causing these lights to come on.  But since I have no warranty, I would have to pay $2000 myself, right?  Does what I describe sound like what the service bulletin is?  Do you think the brake pads could be worn at 40k miles?

Answer
First I think you should have the brakes checked to make sure they are safe before going on the trip. Toyota had issued a service bulletin for an updated skid control ECU and in most cases replacing it does take care of the problem but keep in mind that it depends on what the diagnostic trouble codes are that are stored in the computer so unless you can give me some trouble code numbers that's the best answer I have at this time.
