Toyota Repair: CE Sensor, input sensors, toyota camry

I have a 1999 Toyota camry where the CE light has come on.  Is this a real problem and is it expensive to fix?

The check engine light turns on when the onboard computer sees a problem with one of the engine/transmission input sensors, most of the time this is emission control related, the first step would be to connect a diagnostic scantool or code reader to the car to find out what the trouble codes are, a lot of autoparts stores such as autozone will get the codes for you at no charge, once the codes are known you can let me know and I can help with finding out what the problem may be.
