Toyota Repair: My 89 toyota truck, air quality control, clearlake ca

Can I put the v6 motor and 5 speed transmission from a 96 Toyota 4x4 extra cab pickup into a 89 4 cylinder Toyota 4x4 5 speed extra cab Toyota pickup? (both have fuel injection) If so is it hard to do? Are there many modifications? Thanks Jesse Clearlake Ca.

You would have to use all of the wiring and the computer from the V-6 engine as well, there nay be modifications necessary for the driveshaft, the hydraulic clutch system and the motor/transmission mounts. Since you live in CA there may also be emission control regulations for your County as well as State emission control laws that could be violated especially if there are emission control inspectios, it's best to check with your local bureau of automotive repair and your local air quality control board before even considering doing this.
