Toyota Repair: Toyota Corolla Airbag Warning Light?, airbag warning light, diagnostic test kit

Question
We have a 2004 5D D4D which has recently started to have the airbag warning light stay on when started.  This is intermittent though as sometimes it goes off after 20-30 second and stays off, but sometimes it stays on for the duration of the journey (irrepective of how long the journey is).  We've had the car checked by our local Toyota dealership and they say that they connected the correct diagnostic test kit and could find no problems or fault codes.  Our main concern is that whilst the car is safe to drive (that's what the dealership tell us), its my understanding that while the light stays on the airbag system will not work in the event of an accident.  Can you advise on any possible causes and ways that we may be able ro remedy them?

Answer
That is true it could be unsafe to drive.
My first question is does it have side airbags?
If so, thats usually where the issue comes from
and a good techy must look. I'm assuming that
your vehicle has never been in an accident or even
bumped into in a parking lot, if so its a sensor
underneath the bumper cover front. Look at the front
bumper cover and see if there is any scrapes or scratches
in it. These are the first things a good air bag technician
will check. Go to a different Toyota dealer and ask for
a experienced air bag technician. The expensive scanner
we have will actually pinpoint the sensor and or connection.
