Toyota Repair: 2003 Corolla Hub/Bearing, hub assembly, corrola s

Question
Hi,Ted.

On my 2003 Corrola S, how can you check the front bearing/hub assembly. I know on the older cars, you simply jack the car up and try to move the tire back and forth to see if there is any play.

I have a noise coming from the front passenger side and notice it around 45mph and above. The sound doesn't get louder as the speed increases, it does change though.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Steve

Answer
That test may also work depending on how bad the bearing is, another way is to put the car on jacks and then put it in gear to let the front wheels spin, listen to the bearings with a plastic tube on the backside on the spindle, if one is bad it will make more noise than the other.
