Toyota Repair: Grinding noise, toyota camry, independent shop

Hello Ted I have a 1997 Toyota camry and today while I was driving the check engine light came on and when I press on the brakes I hear a grinding noise. I was wondering if the check engine light and the grinding noise are connected or are they two separate problems. and if they are not connected what do you think the problem is.

It sounds like an ABS(antilock brake system) issue, to have a specific answer I would need to know what the diagnostic trouble codes are that cause the check engine light, please have the codes read at either the toyota dealer or an independent shop, some autoparts stores such as Autozone may be able to get the codes for you at no charge. You should also have the brakes checked because if they are worn into the metal then it can cause abs related problems.
