Toyota Repair: Toyota 2005 Corolla, independent shop, toyota dealer

Question
My check engine light is on.  The car is running fine and only has 54,000 miles on it.  I called the toyota dealer and they said it could be over 200 things. I know it will be expensive to take it to the dealer.  What could this be?

Answer
The problem with your case is that the codes need to be pulled with a scanner any time that the check engine light comes on. That's why they're telling you it could be 200 different problems. You need to take your car to a shop to have a dignostic check. If you're afraid that the dealer will cost too much, try a local independent shop.
