Toyota Repair: 93 camry code 12, signal circuit, camry

Question
Hi Ted,
I just got a 1993 Camry 3.0 V6 Automatic, and I need to run smog for registration. It didn't pass and when they were running it the check engine light came on. I checked and it gave me the code 12. I researched that it means: no RPM signal to ECU while cranking, but I am not sure if that is accurate. I wanted to confirm what code 12 means, and what I can do to fix it.

Answer
Hi there,

An ECU code of "12" means word for word as follows: No "ne" or "g" signal to ECU within 2 seconds after engine has been cranked.

All the possible areas of concern can range from the distributor or the disttributor circuit, starter/ignition signal circuit, the ignitor or the ECU itself.
