Toyota Repair: 4 runner engine problem, crankshaft pulley, jack xu

Question
QUESTION: I am a owner of a 99 Toyota 4 runner SR5, V6, automatic, and 4 wheel drive.  Yesterday afternoon, when I was stopped at a intersection, I put the gear in neutral to wait for the long red light.  When I was waiting, I accidentally stepped on the accelerator pretty as I was trying to step on the brake to shift the gear into drive.  The engine rev'ed up and then stalled.  I was not able to restart the engine.  I towed the car to the Pep-boys and thought it maybe just a starter or alternator problem.  But the mechanics from the shop told me that the engine is ceased and may need a total rebuild.  Since this shop can not deal engine problem, I have to tow the car back to my house.  Now I am looking for an expert to explain to me what could be wrong and how/where should I get it repaired.

I have kept regular services to the car and never had any problems with the engine before.

Thanks,

Jack Xu

Answer
Try to rotate the engine by hand using a 19mm socket and a ratched or just a 19mm wrench on the bolt on the front of the crankshaft pulley, if the engine is not seized then you should be able to rotate it, there will be some resistance due to the engine compression. If the engine can't be rotated by hand then it's a problem because it may be seized up due to overrevving it, by the way is there any oil in the engine, check the oil level.
