Toyota Repair: Transmission fluid over heats, seal area, trans fluid

Question
Hi,

When I put on the cruise control at about 65-70 mph for a period of time, my 95 4runner, 3.0 4wd with 147K miles, transmission light comes on.  I follow the manuals instruction to turn the car off and wait a few minutes and then start it and it goes off. The manual said this means the temperature is to high...but why? I notice trans fluid squirts out of the bottoms of the trans around the seal area. What can I do to correct that?

Thanks

Answer
First fix the leak, your'e not very specific about where the leak is but it sounds to me that the transmission oil pan is leaking in which case it should be removed and resealed, the oil temp warning light can come on if the fluid is either too low or too high.Repair the leak and then fill the transmission with the correct type(dexron III)to the correct level.
