Toyota Repair: Check Engine Light on 1998 Camry, charcoal canister, toyota dealership

Question
Last week the light came on for the first time. This car was a gift from my parents, who were sticklers for regular maintenance. I went through the bottomless pit of records they gave us, found that the vehicle had a full tune up, oil change, transmission flush, plugs, wires, etc. right before they transferred it to us in August 2008. The only record of anything pertaining to the lights was a repair made in 2001. The car has less than 70,000 miles on it. Is it possible our problem could be something as simple as a bad gas cap? We just got rid of another vehicle with the same issue, and we spent about 1500 dollars replacing all the sensors, solenoids, etc. on that car and the light still came on periodically. Thank you for your help!

Answer
Debbie,
First replace the gas cap, buy one from Toyota, not one from a auto parts store. Drive it for a week, if it still doesn't go out take it to a Toyota dealership and they will fix it for free. Its in the emission system charcoal canister area, It's warranted. If you have a problem with them, let me know the name of the dealership and I will
help you out.
