Toyota Repair: 96 toyota breaks, rear disc brakes, rear drum brakes

Question
I have been having problems with my rear brakes on a 96 toyota camry. When I brake, it makes a "thudding" sound as it slows down, and is the rear brakes. Also, at somepoints the brake light comes on and off again. When I had the car recently inspected, they said there was some wear on the pad, but they just realigned the break shoe housing? Could this be the emergency brake or something else?
Thanks

Answer
I'm not sure what they mean by "realigned the brake shoe housing"if it has rear drum brakes then the e-brake is activated using the same brake shoes as the regular brakes, if it has rear disc brakes then the e-brake is inside a small brake drum which is part of the rotor, the brake light going on and off could mean low brake fluid in the reservoir under the hood. If it has rear drum brakes the noise could be caused by the brake shoes moving sideways inside the drum, this could be caused by a grooved brake drum, disc brakes could cause the noise for the same reason, poor contact between the friction material and the drum/disc.
