Toyota Repair: 1988 Toyota Camry speedometer, 1988 toyota camry, toyota camry

Question
Hi Tim,
I just got my first car in Australia. A 1988 Toyota Camry station wagon, v4.

The speedometer doesn't show any speeds above 80km/h. If I go faster (90/100/110 etc.)it will still only show 80...

Any idea how to fix this? Do I need to replace the speedometer? Would that be easy to do for a mechanic?

Cheers, Michael

Answer
Michael,
Its most likely the speedometer, best thing to do is replace
the whole instrument panel as a unit. You can get one from a junk yard.
There easy to replace, about 1/2 hour. If you haven't done it
have someone do it for you, or if you find a yard that will let you remove one, its a good way to learn.

Good luck
