Toyota Repair: Trac off light and check engine light, toyota camry v6, toyota camry

Question
Hi!

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry V6. At 162,000 miles the check engine light
came on. Car seems to still run well. At 174,000 miles, 2 days ago, the trac
off light came on and cannot be turned off by depressing the button on the
dash. What is the problem and how much will it cost to repair. I want to try to
avoid replacing parts that will not correct the problem. Money is tight right
now as with many other people. Can you help me?

Answer
Most of the time the trac/vsc lights will turn on because of the check engine light, in order for me to help I will need to know the trouble codes stored in the onboard computer (ECM), the codes can be retreived using a diagnostic scantool, most of the autoparts chain stores like autozone will get the codes for you at no charge, the dealer or repair shops will charge a diagnostic fee in most cases. Record the trouble codes and then get back to me and I can then help with diagnosing the problem.
