Toyota Repair: 1996 Camry Auto Transmission, transmission shop, trans fluid

Question
V-6 3.0L Mother in law call and said car will only go in reverse, won't go forward. Has trans fluid in it. Is there
anything that would affect this trans like a solenoid or relay? Has 70,000 mi. on it. Torque con or pump going out?
Is there a problem with Camry Transmissions for that year?

Answer
John,
Normally a Camry transmission of that vintage will go 200k miles
or more with proper fluid and filter changes. It should not go bad
at 70k miles. When a Camry transmission starts going bad it usually either starts slipping or the reverse goes out. Lets hope its not a internal problem. Is possible the linkage is disconnected. The best thing to do is take it to a reputable transmission shop that knows and understands Toyotas.

Let me know the outcome.

Good luck
Tim
