Toyota Repair: engine doesnt start, wire connections, distributor cap

Question
My neighbor has a 1986 Toyota pick-up 4x4. It starts up fine, and will run fine until he turns it off, then he can't start it until he lets it set for awhile. Do you have any idea what it can be.

Answer
The most likely cause would be a problem with the distributor if nothing else can be found such as corroded secondary wire connections at the distributor cap and coil tower, another common failure is the igniter module, both the distributor and igniter can cause problems with temperature change of the engine.
