Toyota Repair: Electronic Control Module, fuel air mixture, lighting circuit

Question
Tim,
Bless you for sharing your wisdom with others. Here's my ?. Recently, on 3 different occasions, while driving at night, suddenly all my interior dash lights as well as the headlights and fog lights went out for about 4-5 seconds, then came back on. As this is a huge safety concern, I took my 06 Camry in to the dealer for repair.  Since they couldn't replicate the problem in the shop they would not do anything for me, even though it was under warrantee.  I have a concern for safety while driving at night, as I attend a church which is 20 miles out in the country, several times a week.  Can you tell me what the ECM does? Is there a way I can determine if the ECM is the problem, since this was an intermittent problem?  Thanks much for info.

Answer
Juanita,
This could be dangerous. The lights might stay off longer or
not come back on. You need to go to a different dealership and get it resolved immediately. All Toyota dealerships must accept your car. They must look at recalls and problem lists for that vehicle. You will find a technician that really knows what he's doing. It sounds like a loose connection somewhere in the lighting circuit. The way to find it is when the lights are on and the car is running all connections in the circuit must be wiggled one at a time until the culprit is found. It could be a connection at the ECM/PCM.
The ECM is the computer that controls the functionality ratios of fuel/air mixture, depending on timing and temperatures of the running of the engine emission controls based on the signals sent by all the sensors on the vehicle.
