Toyota Repair: Overheated 1997 Coralla, toyota corolla, head gasket

Question
We have a 1997 Toyota Corolla. My wife ran it while it was low on water (the rad had sprung a leak). She didn't notice it overheating until it stalled one day - it had run out of water completely. It was sluggish to turn over initially, but now it turns over freely. I am wondering what I will need to do in order to get this car running again

Answer
Well, of course I am not going to know the extent of the damage since I cannot see the car. Obviously you will need to repair/replace the radiator and flush the cooling system. In order to do that, you will need to remove the t-stat and re-attach the hose when the system is flushed. I would recommend you replace the t-stat and gaskets. It is possible that you damaged the head gasket due to overheating.
