Toyota Repair: Rav4 Tune up, rubber grommet, rav 4

Question
I'm using the sparkplug tool for the deep plugs on the Rav - there is a rubber ring just above the plug that won't let me get to it...what do I do to change the plugs?

Answer
A Rav-4 engine is just a 4 cylinder Camry engine. I think what might be happening is that someone (possibly you) attempted to remove the spark plugs with a spark plug socket that contains a rubber retainer inside the socket so that when the plug is loosened, the rubber grommet fits snugly around the top of the plug and facilitates its removal. I believe that this rubber piece is stuck on top of the plug. Most mechanics use a spark plug socket that contains a built in magnet instead of the rubber.
