Toyota Repair: 96 toyota camry wont crank, toyota camry, auto parts store

Question
Hello
My 1996 Camry will not crank. Whenever I turn the ignition I get a series of rapid clicks until I release the ignition. When I get the repeated clicking all of the lights flash but the engine will not turn over. I think it is the starter but I want to be sure.

Answer
Hi there,

Before you decide to replace your starter, please make sure you inspect and clean both positive and negative battery terminals and battery posts. Make sure they are nice an snug and have a good connection. If you still expereince the same problem, take your battery to a local auto parts store for a quick test to rule out a bad battery. If your starter is bad and you are mechanically inclined, you can remove your starter, repair it, then re-install it. If not, a "remanufactured" starter will cost around $90-$110 and you can expect to pay a refundable core charge.

Thanks!
