Toyota Repair: 1990 toyota 4cyl 4x4, turning the key, distributor cap

Question
My truck is not starting.I turn the key to start it and it turns over but it seems
like there's no compression it turns with ease.I thought it was the starter so i
bought a new one and put it in and is still doing the same thing.I have a over
ride for the clutch so I tried turning the key with it in gear and it goes ahead
so i know the starter is engaging could it be the coil.I found a problem with
the wiring one of the clips that holds the wire going to the coil to the
distributor cap was rubbing against the belt and pulley but never cut through
the main 2 wires it skinned the inner sheathing it's like freid wires there using
it as a ground on the coil would that cause something. Thanks will appreciate
the help.

Answer
If the engine sounds like it has no compression and spins real fast then there may be a problem with the timing belt, first remove the distributor cap to see if the rotor turns when cranking the engine, if it does remove the upper timing cover to check if the belt is loose,if not, the belt is broken,or it may have jumped on the gears, check to see if all the timing marks line up.
