Toyota Repair: Fuel pump wiring, metal bracket, toyota pickup

Question
I am replacing the fuel pump on a 92 toyota pickup and it is a in-tank pump. The new pump connector is not the same so I have to splice the wires INSIDE the gas tank. Is this safe. It appears that the connector itself is submerged in gas. Does this not short the wiring? What prevents this from exploding? I am nervousdoing this but there is no other way around it. Any suggestions/explanations.

Thanks

Answer
As long as the wires are properly insulated there is no problem with doing this, none of the exposed wires should touch the metal bracket so use heat shrink tubing or crimp on connectors, do not use tape. Current going through a wire submerged in gas does not cause an explosion.
