Toyota Repair: RAV4 1999, exhaust emissions, rav4

My engine light is on. The code translates to failed exhaust emissions. Is this dangerous? I need the car for the next week. Can I drive it and not ruin the car?
How much will it cost to get it fixed?

Did you have a shop diagnose the code? Did they tell you what code reading they got? Was it a "P1133"? I would not recommend that you drive the car for a long period of time with ANY engine light on. It could damage additional components during the process. Depending on what parts are faulty, (EX: O2 sensor or Catylitic Converter) the cost to fix it will vary significantly.
