Toyota Repair: Remove door lock from Toyota Corolla Seca, toyota corolla, toyota dealer

I have lost my key and was told by a locksmith the cheapest way to get a new key cut is to remove the door lock from the car and take it into him.  Is this easy to do? Any advice is appreciated.  It is a 1998 Toyota Corolla Seca.

Instead of doing that go to the toyota dealer and give them the VIN# of the car,go to the parts department, they can then get the key code and make a new key for you, bring some sort of identification with you to prove you are the registered owner and there should be no problem.
