Toyota Repair: transmission, reputable shop, toyota sienna

Question
Our 2000 Toyota Sienna has started making a whirring sound.  It sounds like  when you have your car in a low gear and are going at a higher speed, like the engine is straining, but it is changing gears and running fine.  Just making the high pitched noise.  Any ideas as to what it could be?

Answer
Darrell,
Unfortunately because I'm not at the vehicle I cannot diagnose
this noise, it could be coming from the engine or the transmission.

Are you sure its shifting into overdrive? It could be only running
in 3rd gear. As you slowly accelerate (all accessories off so you can listen) observe the tach and feel for the transmission shifting.

If your positive it shifts into all the gears then go to a reputable shop where a mechanic has a stethoscope and have him listen to pinpoint the sound.

Good luck, let me know.
