Toyota Repair: 2001 Toyota Avalon Cruise Control, toyota avalon, scantool

Question
Just bought a 2001 Avalon with 57,000 miles.  The cruise control does not work at all.  The light indicating the cruise is turned on works fine, but the cruise will not set at any speed.  And when I push the "set" button the "cruise" control light on the dash starts to blink, and continues to do so until I turn off the cruise control.
Any suggestions?

The blinking light means that there is a trouble code stored in the computer, please have this diagnosed at either the toyota dealer or another facility of your choice, it will require connecting a scantool to read the trouble codes, after that you can get back to me if you need help to further diagnose and a possible solution.
