Toyota Repair: idle, honda odessey, vacuum leaks

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I know that you are an expert in toyotas but their are no experts in the honda area so I thought I'd see if you could answer this question.  My 2000 Honda Odessey is idled high too high.  The scanner read that the TPS and the idle control valve is the problem but when they were tested it showed they are working correctly. there are no vacuum leaks either...can you tell me what is the problem?

ANSWER: Hi Ev,
I'll be glad to try. Please tell me how they checked
the TPS? Scanners can be misleading some times, I've seen other issues that cause at TPS to send a bad signal back to the computer.

Is the high idle about the same RPM's as when the engine is cold?
Is the vehicle stumbling at idle or driving?
A bad Engine temp sensor can cause this? There easy to check with
a multimeter.

QUESTION: Hi Tim,

Thanks for attempting to solve my problem.  The idle is the same warm or cold. It does not stuble at all.  I may need to back up a bit and explain the details.  I had my transmission rebuilt and when it was completed and installed by another machanic, when he test drove it he said the dash board gear light was blinking and there was this funny noise coming from the transmission.  When he check the speed sensors, the top counter shaft speed sensor was chewed up .  The machanic that rebuilt the trans said maybe he got the counter shaft sensor mixed up with the main shaft sensor...so he bought a new one and switched them, the same thing happend again. Well, the transmission machanic then added a washer to the new sensor and the van ran except it was now idled high. This is where my question came in.
Thank you for your help.

Ev.

ANSWER: Ev,
I can only guess that maybe they accidently forgot to hook
up or broke a sensor like the TPS, ECT, or MAF. Another thing
that must be checked is all the vacuum lines.

Let me know what you find out.
Good luck,

Tim

QUESTION: Thank you Tim,
My mechanic tripled checked all the vacumm lines. I'm not sure what ECT means....could you tell me? I'll see if they can check the TPS and MAF with a voltmeter.

Answer
Ev,
I meant CTS or coolant temperature sensor, sorry, typo.
It's easy to hook up vacuum lines incorrectly too. A vacuum line
schematic should be looked at. Any and all connections of things
disconnected must be rechecked, plus accidental bumping of wire
or connections. I see things like this many times when mechanics
are moving as fast as they can to finish a job.
