Toyota Repair: 1996 4 runner rear door latch and panel, phillips screws, door latch

QUESTION: How do I take the rear door inside panel off to get to the door latch mechanism. It does not spring back when opened and I cannot get lubrication to the farthest point without removing the inside panel. Thanks for the help!

ANSWER: Is it one of the side doors or the the rear hatch door?

The rear panel can be removed by first removing the phillips screws on the bottom sill plate and then pulling the plate off, the panel can by pried of from the inside, it has a lip on the upper edge so it needs to be pulled up a little. The release cable may have come off or the door lock actuator may be stuck.
