Question
QUESTION: Hello Ted,

I'm looking at a 1991 Toyota Camry that has sat for about a year.Of course the battery was shot.
When I turn the key I would hear a click but no turn-over.I had the stater checked and it was ok.
I hooked up a battery booster to it and got the same click but no turn-over. After a couple turns of the key, now there is no click and no interior lights. Could I have blown a fuse using the booster?

ANSWER: Yes, check the alternator fuse under the hood in he fuse box near the battery, it should be either a 80A or 100A, if it's blown check the rest of the fuses also. The alternator fuse is bolted in and will requtre disassembly of the fuse box.

QUESTION: Thanks Ted,
I checked the other fuses and they are ok.
With the battery removed,I'm reading resistance from the positive battery cable to ground. This is not right is it?
Shouldn't it read infinity?

Answer
There should be continuity from the positive battery cable to body ground,if there is it means that there is a short to ground, what is the resistance reading? Nothing is perfect so an extremely high resistance reading is acceptable, something like 5000k or higher is basically the same as infinity. Also make sure that you are not touching the DVOM probes while taking the measurement. Try disconnecting the cable from the starter and see if the short to ground goes away, starters can short out internally and cause this kind of problem.
