Toyota Repair: blowing black smoke, vacuum hose, toyota pickup

Question
My 1988 toyota pickup (SR22) with 200k mi. is iddling rough and blows black smoke out the exhaust. Is this a carburetor problem?

Answer
Yes, make sure that the choke plate in the carburetor is all the way open when the engine is warmed up, remove the top of the air filter to check, if that's not it then look down the carburetor bores and make sure the secondary butterfly is not sticking open, the carburetor also has an auxillary accelerator pump, it's located on the side and has a small vacuum hose going to it, remove the hose and see if there is fuel in it, these pump diaphragms used to leak a lot and pull in raw fuel making the engine run rich.
