ac light in my  1999 Toyota rav4 blinks after being on for just a few seconds, and does not cool.

It may be low on freon which would mean there is a leak in the system, you should have a qualified a/c technician check it, I recommend the toyota dealer, the first step is to connect pressure gauges to see what the line pressures in the system are, if they are low then there is a freon loss and the leak has to be located and repaired but it may be more complicated, it could be a faulty a/c compressor or a restriction in the system, it all depends on what the pressure readings are, a good a/c tech can interpred the pressure readings to diagnose what needs to be done.
