Toyota Repair: 1999 RAV 4, toyota rav4, salvage yard

Question
I have a 1999 Toyota RAV4, 4WD, 5 speed. 125,000 miles. When the transmission is in 5th gear, it has begun to "pop" out of gear and back into neutral. This seems to happen when the engine is not pulling, rather coasting with the  clutch engaged, or when the cruise control is set and the car heads down a hill. You can let your foot off the accelerator and it will drop out of gear. I've also noted that when the car is in 5th gear, and you let off the accelerator and then push down on the accelerator, the gear shift moves back and forth about 2 or 3 inches, but doesn't always pop out of gear. I've also noted that the car seems to be pretty jerky when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.
thanks

Answer
This is not good news, it normally indicates worn shift forks and shift sleeves and gears particularly for the 5th gears, transmission parts are extremely expensive and not too may repair shops or even the dealer will attempt to repair them anymore because there is so much labor time involved,  in most cases they are replaced as a unit with either a remanufactured or new one from the toyota dealer, a lot of money can be saved by just trying to locate a used one at a salvage yard, the best choice would be a yard that specializes in toyota only parts.
