Toyota Repair: Rear hatch wont latch Sequoia 2004, release latch, rear hatch

I can not close the rear hatch.  I have it held closed with a bungee cord.  The lock seems to be stuck in the open position.  Any ideas.  Thank you!

The lock(latch) may very well be stuck in the open  position, this could be because the door lock actuator is stuck, try lubricating the lock with some spray lube and working the release handle, try forcing a screwdriver sideways into the latch to move the release latch but I'm afraid that the latch will need to be replaced and possibly the actuator also.
