Toyota Repair: erratic idle, vacuum hoses, radiator hose

Question
I just rebuilt the motor on my 1988 toyota 3.0 4X4 truck, the engine runs great going down the road at normal driving speeds, but when you first start it up it has a idle of around 1500 RPM's then when it worms up the engine starts reving anny where from 1500 to 2000, sometimes fro,m 1000 to 1500, here is the kicker when im setting at a stop light with my foot on the brake the idle drops but is still erratic. I started the engine one weekend and sprayed carb cleaner around the intake and vacuum hoses thinking it was a leak but no change in erratic idle was found. I removed the throttle body and cleaned it up good, still the same problem. I read on your site that air pockets in the water lines can cause this? I have noticed a girgling sound coming from inside when I run the heater, how can I remove air pockets from the lines?, and do you have any other sugestions??? Im at a loss

Answer
The best way to get all the air out is to let the engine cool down then remove the top radiator hose from the radiator, with the hose raised up add coolant into the hose very slowly until no more bubbles appear, reconnect the hose and start the engine, this may have to be repeated again until all the air is out, also make sure the heater is turned on so the coolant can circulate through the heater core.
