Toyota Repair: Code PO773, metal particles, transmission failure

Question
Mr Ritter,
I turn to you again for help.Earler this year I already replaced 2 lock up solenoids, Now this code pops up."Electrical(E) Shift Solenoid. What is the course of action regarding this code? Is this problem part of a bigger problem? I have a Sienna 2000 XLE with 102000 miles.

Thanks again in advance.

Sicerely,

Answer
Yes it could be the start of a bigger problem, shift solenoids are almost never the problem, they just stop working because they get clogged up with foreign material like metal particles caused by a transmission failure, in this case I would recommend just removing the transmission oil pan and looking for any signs of metal particles, the PO773 code is almost always caused by a lock up torque converter failure which will distribute metal particles ionto the rest of the transmission and causing it's failure. If there is any metal in the oil pan at all the transmission would need to be replaced.
