Toyota Repair: 98 Camry Cutting Off When I Stop, air control valve, toyota camry

Question
Hi,

My mother has a 98' Toyota Camry LE (178,000 miles) which she got recently.  She has been having a problem with it shutting off on her when she stops.  She has taken it back to where she bought it from and also to a mechanic who went over it with a fine tooth comb - they have did various things and the mechanic told her the car had nothing wrong with it.  - That the only thing he might could figure out is it being the fuel filter which they changed for her today.  Later on today it stopped on her again.  Do you know of any recalls for this model or what else it could possible be?  It is really confusing and frustrating because knowone can see any problems.  It did have a wire hanging under the hood of her car that when she had to it to a shop they saw that it wasn't to anything.  Could this wire have been from an alarm system or something?  I was trying to look online about recalls and did see something about and alarm system causing problems with the car stalling and stuff.  Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
A common problem on camrys is stalling at stops or in the morning when the engine is cold, in either case the idle air control valve is the most likely cause, it's located on the throttle body, replacing this valve will solve the stalling problem, at the same time the throttle body should be cleaned of any carbon deposits.
