Toyota Repair: 1999 toyota tacoma 3.4 engine, fuel pressure gage, air fuel ratio

Question
QUESTION: i need to check fuel pressure on this vehicle-i need to know the proper way and also where i can find the proper fuel pressure gage or adapter-i have never bought any toyota tools and do not know where to look-i would think they make an adapter which installs in place of the inline fuel filter then hook your gage up to it-but i do not know-thank you for any help you can give me

ANSWER: Most autoparts stores sell a universal fuel pressure tester that comes with a lot of adaptors to fit several different import cars including toyota, they tend to be expensive, they also come with instructions. Instead of spending $200-300 for the pressure gauge kit why not just pay a basic fee to have repair shop test the pressure at less than $100.

QUESTION: i have called parts stores and they want to know the tool number-if i knew the tool number or brand i would not need to call them-i am also getting a lean code p071 on this truck-i do not think it is a fuel problem because it runs fine and does not have i hard starting problem-but i would like a definitive answer on fuel pressure to eliminate the fuel pump-i have a fuel pressure gage set for domestic cars-but cannot locate anyone to tell me what kind of adapter or who sells it or what brand-thank you

Answer
I think you meant a PO171 code which is a lean air/fuel ratio condition which can be related to a fuel problem,if the fuel pressure drops or the engine runs out of gas it will set this code, in most cases this code is set by a fauly MAF( mass airflow) sensor, I'm not sure what the problem is that makes you want to check the fuel pressure, maybe some more information would help. You said it's running fine, if that's the case the fuel pressure should not be a concern unless there is a definete driveability or starting issue.
