Toyota Repair: Odometer and Speedometer stoped working on 97 tacoma, speedometer cable, speed sensor

Odometer and Speedometer stoped working on 97 Tacoma. I am assuming it is the speedometer cable. It is a 4cy 4x4 standard transmission. Are there other possible reasons for them to stop working other then a bad speedometer head? Is this a hard fix and how should i go about troubleshooting/fixing the problem?

It doesn't have a speedometer cable, it has a speed sensor in the transmission in the transfer case, it sends a signal to the computer to make the speedometer work, it's very common for the speed sensor to develop problems so I would recommend replacing it.
