Toyota Repair: 96 toyota corrola drivers side half shaft replacement, wheel bearing replacement, toyota corrola

Question
hello

we have a 96 Toyota corolla with a 1.8 and auto,we replaced both rotors and pads today because of a grinding noise coming from the front when your driving down the road, well when i replaced the drivers side rotor and pads,i was tightening the lug nuts and noticed some play in the wheel(drivers side)up and down and side to side ,more play then i would expect, did the other wheel and it did not have any play in it when it was off the ground,so I'm assuming it is the half shaft sounds like the bearing,it has 182,000 on it,can you tell me how i can change this, autozone has a new one for $60.00. Thank you cari pierce

Answer
The wheel bearing and the hub should be replaced, remove the steering knuckle by taking out the 2 strut bolts and the axle shaft nut then remove the 2 nuts and one bolt from the lower suspension arm, the wheel bearing replacement requires a hydraulic press, you can take the steering knuckle to an autoparts store that has a press and have them replace the bearing and hub.
