Toyota Repair: Timing belt change for 94 Camry, drive belts, john water

Question
Hi Ted, I own a 94 Camry (4 cyl. auto) with 145K miles. Timing belt, drive belts and water pump were replaced on Apr. 01 at Toyota dealer with 70K miles. I think it's the time to change them again. I called two Toyota dealers, one told me that I don't need to replace the water pump, just the timing belt and drive belts. The other one told me to replace all. I am wondering if I should replace water pump. Another question is whether it is necessary to at the dealer. Thanks! John

Answer
Water pump failures are kind of unpredictable, they can last up to 120,000 miles if the cooling system is maintained and the coolant replaced every 30,000 miles, I consider it good insurance against a breakdown between timing belt replacements to just replace the water pump as well.
