Toyota Repair: toyota corolla 97 stalling, engine hesitation, drive axles

my car seems to stall for a split second. I'm driving to a complete stop, then when i start to drive, the car stalls but you can hear the engine running, it jolts then continues to drive.

we're going to need a little bit more info, esp on older cars with higher milage.  we need to find out if were looking for an engine hesitation probem, a transmission internal sticking issue or possibly slack in a drive axle (universal joint/driveshaft).  you said you can hear the engine, is the engine reving up and then it jolts?  if thats the case, check your trans fluid level and inspect the drive axles...
