Toyota Repair: 95 Previa Check Engine Light, exhaust gas recirculation, obd ii

Question
The check engine light on our 95 Toyota Previa is lit almost constantly.  Our mechanic wrote down the computer codes as 401, 157, 149, 420, and 407.  Can you clarify what those codes mean?  He does great work but is difficult to understand due to his accent.  He said that so long as the vehicle passes the State emissions inspection there's nothing to worry about (ignore the light) - is this safe/correct?  Thanks.

Answer
P0420 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0401 OBD-II Trouble Code
Insufficient EGR Flow(exaust gas resirculation)
149/157 I think those are not correct numbers.P0407, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit Low.
You have many codes, I wold not recomend that you drive without solving the problem. But it is your call.
