Toyota Repair: Keyless entry, toyota tacoma sr5, keyless entry system

Question
Have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4-Dr Pre-Runner.  Keyless Remote quit working all of a sudden.  Had the transmitter checked and it is working properly.  Can the receiver lose its code with the transmitter?  Can it be reset to see if that is the problem, fuses for it possibly blown and location, or if the receiver went bad, where is it located in the vehicle so I can replace it?

Check to see if the dome lights are working, if so the fuse is good, it may be an aftermarket keyless entry system which is different from the factory installed system, in case of the factory system the receiver unit is part of the body ECU, if it's aftermarket there is a seperate control unit, the only way for me to know which it is it too look at a picture of the remote, can you send a photo to me my email is tedrttr@yahoo.com>
