Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota Sienna LE door problem, control rods, toyota sienna

The right side sliding door on my wife's Sienna is starting to give us some problems.  It won't latch, or the handle goes in/out without opening the latch (when the door is closed).  I'm pretty handy IF I have a good idea before I start, of what the overall process is.  Is there a door troubleshooting guide available, or would you be able to give me some suggestions?  Thanks.

The cause is most likely the door lock/latch mounted inside the sliding door, with the door open you can see the three attaching bolts, the inner door panel has to be removed to gain access to the latch, there are some door lock control rods that are connected with plastic clips that have to be disconnected.
