Toyota Repair: anti-theft alarm, toyota dealer, investement

Question
Anti-theft alarm on 1997 Camry goes off at random, including in the middle of the night. It is a source of aggravation to my 79-year-old mother-in-law who owns the car. How would one go about disengaging the alarm?  Would disengaging the alarm hinder the performance of the car in any way? Thank you!

Answer
It's probably an aftermarket add-on alarm system, removing it is a little bit involved so I would recommend having either the toyota dealer or an alarm shop remove it entirely, the cost would be around $80 but it may be a wise investement and your poor mother in law can get some rest, and no, removing it will not change anything else.
