Toyota Repair: 2006 Camry alert sounder, nthsa, 2006 camry

Question
How can I disable the beeper/sounder? The thing never stops beeping. If a belt is removed or not latched, it beeps 50 times!!! We may never buy another Camry again because of this misfeature. We are responsible drivers and most all times belt-up but as this is America, we still have a few freedoms left (Residents of New Hampshire).Could the beep rate be lowered to lower counts? Or fully disabled? Thanks.Walt.

Answer
The beeper will normally stop after about ten seconds if the seatbelt is not buckled, this is a safety feature and unfortunately can not be disabled, if you insist on driving without the seatbelt in certain situations I would recommend connecting the belt to the buckle before entering the seat and the beeping will not start. Not buying a camry again will not help because all manufacturers both domestic and foreign are required by the NTHSA to have this feature or they can't sell their cars in the US, so don't blame the car makers blame the government.
