Toyota Repair: 93 Toyota Pickup 4X4, diagnostic connector, pickup 4x4

Question
I bought a used truck...133K miles...it runs well however I notice that it can not exceed 75MPH..and when I pull a light utility trailer I have trouble maintaining 65 MPH going up a slight hill...care seems to accelerate as it should ...just weak high end???Does this make sense???

Answer
The first thing that should be done is to check the engine timing, this is done with a timing light and the diagnostic connector under the hood jumped with a wire between terminals TE1 and E1, loosen the distributor set bolt and move the distributor until the timing is at 10 degrees advanced. If the timing can not be brought to 10 degrees then the timing belt needs to be checked to see if the cam timing is correct, this requires the removal of the timing cover but only if this is a V-6 engine, if it's a 4 cylinder engine let me know, the timing procedure is the same except that the four cylinder uses a timing chain, they can also wear and cause timing problems and loss of power.
